Bracki Browar Zamkowy has brewed a jubilee beer to celebrate the anniversary of Cieszyn. Its recipe and name are associated with the brewing tradition of the 1200-year-old town, therefore it is Cieszyn that has been chosen for the debut of “Mastne”. The process of brewing ”Mastne” beer began on 11 May. The beer will be bottled in jubilee bottles on 19 June (Saturday), after lagering in the brewery’s cellars.
“Mastne" is a tribute to the 1200th anniversary of Cieszyn which has “given shelter” to the brewery founded by the Habsburg family since 1846. Our beer heritage is an obligation for us,” says Dominik Szczodry, Chief Brewer of Bracki Browar Zamkowy in Cieszyn.
“Mastne” is the first documented name of the beer from Cieszyn, originating from the words ”fleshy”, “full” to underline the richness of its ingredients. This is what the jubilee “Mastne” is like; it contains as many as 4 malts: pilsner, Munich, caramel and wheat malt. The top fermentation method refers directly to the historic recipes for beers from Cieszyn. Owing to the method, hardly ever used in Poland nowadays, the beer has an unusual aroma. Hence, absolutely exceptional, opalescent and amber-coloured beer has been obtained; as is usually the case for beers from Bracki Browar Zamkowy, with exquisite froth as a result of decoction, a unique brewing method.
The oldest known sources referring to “Mastne” beer go back to the 17th century (Mikołaj Henelius, Silesiografia - 1613, Jakub Schickfuss, Nowo poszerzana kronika Śląska - 1625, Mateusz Merian, Topografia Czech, Moraw i Śląska, mid 17th century).
“On 20 June, not only the inhabitants of Cieszyn, but also thousands of participants of Birofilia Festival in Żywiec nearby are more than welcome to sample our beer”, adds Szczodry.
”Mastne”, 13.0% Blg, will be sold in the home town of Cieszyn and vicinity in 0.5L bottles. Only 500 hl of this beer will be available for sale after the debut on 20 June (100 000 bottles 0.5 l each).
